A 25 year plus veteran of UWFox
As a 25 year plus veteran of UWFox, Pat Duebler has been a witness to a lot of campus history and growth at UWFox and has worked with thousands of people in his capacity of Building Head Custodian.
As head custodian, Pat has to be flexible by adapting to the changing needs of the customers he serves. “Sometimes people come up with needs at the last minute or change their minds about room set-up requirements.” Though many would get frustrated, Pat remains cool-headed and pleasant.
Start on the positive side of things...
“I learned long ago, in the Marines of all places, that you need to start on the positive side of things regardless of how bad the job seems at the onset. And you do the best you can by looking at the bright side. People will recognize your attitude--and the positive feedback from customers will keep you going through the bad parts of any job.”
“Every semester you meet new students and faculty and they inspire me. They bring an enthusiasm. They look to us in Buildings & Grounds for help and assistance, and if we’re successful we make their day a little better.”
What's the biggest change at UWFox?
According to Pat, the biggest change at UWFox isn’t in the building or the sea of different faces--it’s in the level of campus recognition and prestige which UWFox now has in our community. “Twenty-five years ago, few people knew we were here,” explains Pat. “Today they know us because they’ve attended as a student; or visited the campus through it’s events, the Barlow Planetarium, or the Weis Earth Science Museum.”
