The IIT Department provides audio-visual support to the campus. Audio-visual support exists in two key areas-equipment for presentations and production services.

Audio Visual Equipment:

A wide variety of equipment is available for faculty and staff use. High use items can be found in all campus classrooms and laboratories. More infrequently used items are available for check out at the IT Department Help Desk in room 1719. A current campus ID is required to check out the equipment. Items borrowed are typically due the next day by 3:00 pm. Late fees are assessed for late returns. Users are responsible for returning all items in complete and working order.

Reservations

A wide variety of equipment is available for faculty and staff use. Due to limited quantities of equipment, audio-visual equipment is generally not available for student check out. Students needing audio-visual support for bona-fide academic purposes will need to arrange equipment check out through the instructor of the class.

Faculty and staff users are encouraged to provide at least 24 hours notice with their equipment reservations. Early reservations help us to efficiently schedule the equipment to insure that equipment is available among a multitude of users. Reservations are taken on a first-come first served basis. Should equipment not be available, IIT staff will notify users.

Reservations can be made by calling Fox IT Help Desk at x2719 or email fox-helpdesk@uwc.edu.

To the degree possible, equipment models and wiring configurations have been standardized to promote user familiarity and ease.

Off-campus Use and Equipment Reservations

Faculty and staff members may use audio-visual equipment off campus providing the use is in direct support of the campus mission. Equipment reservations for off campus uses are encouraged. Contact the fox-help desk with your specific needs to reserve equipment. When scheduling conflicts arise, campus instructional needs take precedence over any off campus uses.

Equipment Service

Despite our best efforts to keep equipment fully functional at all times, sometimes equipment fails. IIT Help Desk personnel can resolve many typical equipment problems.

Call 832-2719 to report service issues.

IIT Department relies on its network of users to report equipment issues so that problems are resolved efficiently and with minimal downtime for all.

Audio Visual Production

Production of customized audio-visual materials can enhance the learning which occurs inside the classroom or the marketing and promotion of the campus in the community. The IIT Department can assist clients with the creation and duplication of a variety of audio-visual materials.

Because the creation and production of materials can be a time-consuming process, users are encouraged to visit with IIT staff early to provide sufficient project lead-time.

  • Project conceptualization
  • Scriptwriting
  • Audio recording
  • Audio Editing
  • Audio Mixing
  • Cassette Duplication
  • Videotaping/DVD Recording
  • Off the Air recording
  • Video Editing
  • Video Duplication (Small and mass quantities, format standard conversions)
  • Video titling & Graphics
  • Copy work for Photographs & Slides

Some audio-visual materials can be created by end-users through faculty work room resources. These include the creation of overhead transparency materials via campus photocopiers in the workrooms or the creation of PowerPoint materials via campus desktop computers.

The Media Lab (Room 1337) has additional tools and software for creating presentations. Free computer training workshops called "Wired For Sucess," are available to all students on campus and cover a wide range of topics. To check out the entire listing of topics and more information on WFS, click here.

Copyright

The IIT Department must abide by federal Copyright Law in the use and duplication of copyrighted works.

In general, works may not be duplicated or distributed without the expressed permission of the copyright owner. Educational uses fall within that broad context. There are a few specific exceptions which may be applicable to Educational Institutions in certain situations. Consultation with IIT staff will help to insure compliance with acceptable uses of all copyrighted materials.

Related Functions

University Studios

University Studios is a campus student club that provides students with the opportunity to learn about radio and television broadcasting through a “hands on” learning experience provided in the campus radio studios or the campus television studios.

Radio

University Studios Radio “broadcasts” to the Student Union and via the web. Programs are an eclectic mix of musical styles at various times of the day. Campus news, announcements, and specialty programs round out the broadcasting day.

Students studying radio broadcasting can get academic credit for their work via Com 105-Applied Journalism: Radio.

Television

University Studios Television produces video programs that are used in two different ways-cable and non-broadcast.

Cable

Cable programs appear on the Public and Educational Access Channels of cable TV systems serving the Fox Cities. News and public affairs programs, entertainment programs, and cultural programs are featured in our line-up depending on current student interests and needs. Look for our programs on Time Warner Cable Channel 2 in Appleton-Fox Cities & Green Bay and channel 10 in Oshkosh.

Non-broadcast programs

Non-broadcast programs have been created for both on campus clients and for off-campus groups to address personnel training needs, public relations or public awareness issues, or fundraising needs for non-profit organizations or governmental units. Typically these programs are intended for a specific audience and not the general public. Campus client projects include documenting special campus events, recording theatre plays or concerts, or campus lectures.

Students studying Television broadcasting can get academic credit for their work via Com 106-Applied Journalism: Television.

Campus Cable TV Network

The campus operates a closed circuit cable television system. Cable drops are located in all classrooms, laboratories, and most conference rooms providing room occupants with both campus channels and commercial cable channels. Cable TV is not provided to offices. Users may contact the IIT department with their questions about the system.

The campus cable system utilizes channels 2-6 for internal uses. Channels 7 and up retransmit Time Warner cable channels 7 and up--excluding premium or pay channels.

Televisions in hallways throughout the campus provide a means of disseminating information about campus events via a bulletin board system (VBBS) or can be cut over to other cable channels to inform the students about historic, newsworthy events as they happen.

Campus Only Channels

Channel 2 displays campus announcements on the campus web-based bulletin board system (VBBS). Channel 2’s audio is the campus radio station. Users can create announcements via their desktop computer and then have the announcement displayed on monitors around the campus to inform the greater campus community of upcoming events, special notices, important deadlines, or timely information. For more information on the VBBS and how to use it, click here.

Events you want to display on the campus monitors can also be submitted to via email. Provide all key information and send to fox-helpdesk@uwc.edu.

Channels 3-6 are used to feed a variety of signals including satellite transmissions, videotape playback, or internal feeds which originate in one part of the campus to an audience in another part of the campus.

Satellite Dishes

The campus operates several satellite dishes that can be used for satellite videoconferencing, reception of educational programs distributed via satellite, or select network feeds. The campus satellite dishes are capable of both C and Ku-Band reception
