Outlook Web
Access
Important
areas will be highlighted with the Blue Chips .
Logging onto Outlook Web
Access
- You can check your email
from home, or from anywhere that has the Internet access, by using the
Outlook Web Access.
- To log on to the OWA
(Outlook Web Access) site, go to Fox campus web site first (http://www.uwfox.uwc.edu)
>> click Outlook Web Access icon from the Home page.

- Type your user name in the
Log On box. And then type your user name and password again.
- For faculty and staff,
the user name should be first name initial + first seven letters
of your last name. (I.e. Mike Robertson's user name should be 'mroberts'
or other username if you have been informed that yours will be
different.)
- For students, the
user name should be first two letters of your first name + middle
name initial + first four letters of your last name + 4. (i.e.
Jennifer Miller's user name will be 'jenmill4'.)
- If a student didn't
submit his/her middle name when registering the classes, then the
user name should be first three letters of your first name +
first four letters of your last name + 4. (i.e. David M. Smith's
user name should be 'damsmit4'.)
- If none of the methods
will get you in, please contact Fox Help Desk (#2719 or
832.2719) right away.

- Enter your user name and
password again in the Enter Network Password window.
- For faculty and staff,
your password will be given at the time you receive your packet of
employee's information.
- For students, the
password is last 4 digits of your SS # + !! + last 2 digits of
your birth year. (I.e. 1234!!79)
- If for any reason that
you still can't log in, please contact Fox Help Desk (#2719
or 832.2719) right away.

Composing & Sending New
Messages
- Once you log on, you will
see the following screen, which is very similar to Outlook 2000.
However, the OWA interface looks a bit different than Outlook 2000. To
send a new message, click on the Compose New Mail Message icon
(first one from left).

- In the New Message window,
type in the recipients address in the To: line. If you are
sending mail to an UWC user, you do not need to type his entire email
address. Only the user name is needed (i.e. jsmith). For users
who are not from the UWC mail system, you will have to type their full
email address (i.e. bgate@msn.com). Give a short but
descriptive topic to the Subject: line. If you want to add a
file attachment, click on the Attachments tab, otherwise click
on the Send Message icon when you finish typing the message.

- To send a file attachment,
click on the Attachments tab in the New Message window. Then
click on the Browse button to locate the file that you want to
attach. Click Add Attachment Now after locating the file.
Repeat if you need to add more files. Click on Send button to
send the message.

Checking New Messages
- OWA works a bit different
than Outlook 2000. For the Web access version, it does not
automatically check for new mail. You will have to click on the Check
for New Mail icon (the third one from left) to receive new mail.
(It works very much like Reload in Netscape, or Refresh in Internet
Explorer.)

Deleting Mail Messages
- To save the spaces from
the server, you should delete unnecessary messages right away. To
delete messages, check off the box in front of each message. You can
check as many as you want. Click on the Delete Marked Items
icon to delete all the marked messages.

- Although the messages are
deleted from the Inbox, they are actually moved to the Deleted Items
folder in the server. You will have to delete them from the Deleted
Items folder again in order to permanently get rid of these messages.
To access to the Deleted Items folder, click Up One Folder icon
from the Folder List View of the Outlook window. Then click on Deleted
Items folder icon. Mark all the messages and then click on Delete
Marked Items icon as described previously.

Opening File Attachments
- Open the message that has
the file attachment. Point the mouse over the attachment line in the
message and then click on it. If you are using Internet Explorer,
which is the standard Web browser for UW Colleges, the attachment will
be opened in a separate IE window. If you are using Netscape, then you
will have to save the file attachment first and open it using
appropriate software. For instance, using MS Word to open any
attachment that has '.doc' as the file extension, or use Excel
to open file that has '.xls' as the file extension.

- Save any file attachment
that you want to keep. If you deleted a message that has file
attachment, the attachment will be deleted as soon as the message is
deleted. Go File menu >> Save As... >> then
designate a disk location for the attachment to be saved.
Log Off Outlook Web Access
- Once you are done with OWA,
click Log Off icon from the left hand side of the window.
