Why do we have to pay for printing?
Your tuition covers a certain amount of printing; the cost of additional
printing is the responsibility of the student.
How many pages do I get in my account?
Each student starts with 250 (black and white) pages in their account. Your
pages will reset to 250 at the start of every semester.
How will I know when my printing account is getting low?
The print server will automatically alert you when your account has 100
pages remaining.
How can I find out how many pages are in my account?
Whenever you print from a campus lab computer a balloon will pop up on the bottom right of your screen, it will display your print account balance remaining. Or you can just mouse-over the icon to find out the balance.
How do I purchase more pages?
Please stop at the Business Services Office to purchase credit for more
pages before your account becomes depleted.
How much does each page cost?
The campus uses the industry standard to determine our printer costs. The
current standard is $0.05 per black and white page and $0.10 per color page. Also, a 20% discount is applied to duplex (2 sided) print jobs.
Where does my money go?
Your money will go back into the budget that pays for the printer maintenance
and supplies.
How does the print monitoring software work?
The print monitoring software watches all print jobs as they come through
and will deduct the appropriate pages from each user’s account.
How can I make sure my print jobs are correct without sending a
“test print”?
It’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the “Print Preview”
option. You can
access “Print Preview” by clicking the File menu, then Print
Preview in most applications. This will allow you to view an image of your
pages before you send them to the printer.
What if I deplete my account on a weeknight or weekend?
It is your responsibility to monitor your account and to purchase more pages
at the Business Office when you see it is getting low. However, if for some
reason you cannot, such as the Business Office is closed, stop down at the
IIT Helpdesk for assistance. The Helpdesk will assist you in printing your
document if it is urgent/important.
What happens if a printer malfunctions (paper jam, toner runs out,
etc.), deducts from my account, but I don’t receive my printout?
Printers do malfunction from time to time, but if you get an unusable printout
for any reason, please bring the questionable pages to the IIT Helpdesk
and we will inspect them for a possible account credit. Otherwise we will
assume the print was successful.
I printed from Scientific Notebook and some blank pages came out.
What do I do?
This is a known issue with Scientific Notebook and all students have been
informed about it in their appropriate class. Please make sure to use the
print preview feature before printing and only print the pages that have
the data you need. If you print the blank pages you still use the paper
and your account will be charged. Your account will not be credited back
for this error.
